It's no surprise that the Indian auto market is consciously preferring automatic cars, over their manual counterparts. The convenience they offer is definitely worth the premium, especially in crowded metro cities. To make the two-pedal version of the popular Grand i10 more accessible to the masses, Hyundai has introduced the automatic in the Magna trim, priced at Rs 6.21 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), that translates to an on-road price of Rs 7.10 lakh.
The 4-speed automatic transmission is paired to a 1.2-litre petrol engine that develops 83PS of power and 114Nm of torque. The said variant is one above the base variant and gets basic convenience features, such as air-conditioning, power windows, rear AC vents and keyless entry. That said, it misses out on features such as push button start, adjustable steering wheel, height-adjustable driver seat, chilled glovebox, integrated music system, parking sensors and few more. Most importantly, it also skips out on safety features such as anti-lock braking system (ABS) and dual airbags.
The automaker has also deleted the Asta variant from the automatic line-up, that skipped on ABS. The Grand i10 automatic will be available in the fully-loaded Asta (O) variant instead, that is priced at Rs 7.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
Hyundai recently completed two decades in the Indian auto industry. To celebrate the occasion, the Korean automaker introduced special editions of the Grand i10 and the Xcent. In our books, the Grand i10 automatic is a practical hatch for the congested city. In fact, it even featured in our list of the best seven automatic hatches one can buy! With the introduction of the Magna variant, the automatic transmission is slightly pocket-friendly. In case you plan on buying one, we whole-heartedly recommend stretching your budget and picking the top-spec Asta (O) variant, just for the sake of safety more than anything else.
