Kolkata, Sept 08: Congress will launch a fresh spell of agitation today when its workers take part in a "march to Writer's Building" programme to protest the Left Front government's "anti-people" policies.
The WBPCC president Pranab Mukherjee told reporters yesterday that his party is organising the march to protest against the 'anti-people' policies of the Left Front government here as also the BJP-led government at the Centre.
"It will be a token protest. The party workers and leaders will assemble at the Rani Rasmoni Road in central part of the city. During our programme, party workers will not violate laws and not attempt to enter Writers' Buildings," he said. PCC vice president, Pradip Bhattacherjee, said that the agitation which is going to be held after a resurgent state congress put up a better showing than the Trinamool Congress in the state in the May's rural polls was part of the upcoming movement planned against the government.
"We will register our protest against the dismal law and order situation, the deteriorating services in the hospitals and protest the slew of taxes imposed by the economically bankrupt LF government," he said. The agitation is also to highlight the nine-issues raised by party President Sonia during the non-confidence motion against the Vajpayee government.
Police said that they were not taking any chances and would ensure maintenance of peace during the agitation. Bureau Report
