Actor-director Puneet Issar`s latest venture ‘I am Singh’ has gritty theme but lacks the punch. Set in the backdrop of post 9/11 attacks, the film narrates the story of a Sikh family caught in the racial onslaught in America. The film is the story of a young Sikh called Ranveer (Gulzar Chahal) whose elder brothers live in America. His parents go to visit them but things turn murky when one of his brothers gets killed by a racist group and the other goes missing. On hearing the news, Ranveer rushes to America to find his lost brother. In America, he realizes that to seek justice for his brother’s death wouldn’t be easy and he seeks help of an American police officer who is of Indian origin (Puneet himself). The kind hearted officer introduces him to an American attorney who agrees to fight his case. The issue of racial discrimination has been dealt with in several movies in the past. And the issues that are talked about in this film are the same old. The treatment of those issues also remains the same. The film only appeals in some scenes. The director tries to infuse few ‘entertaining’ scenes in an otherwise serious film which are unnecessary. Dismal performance, weak script mars an otherwise good theme. Ratings: One cheer for this one.
