Washington: Brooke Shields has paid a tribute to her mother Teri, who passed away after battling a long illness related to dementia last Wednesday. She was 79.
The 47-year-old actress spoke lovingly of her mother, who was also her manager in the initial stages of her career, after her death was announced on Tuesday.
“My mother was an enormous part of my life and of who I am today,” Contactmusic quoted her as telling E! News.
“I loved her, laughed with her, and respected her. And although she had her share of struggles, she was my mom,” she said.
The single mother began managing and promoting Shields when she was 11 months old, kick-starting her career with a Dove ad and a Calvin Klein campaign when she was 15.
Teri - whose full name was Theresa Anna Lillian Schmon - controversially allowed Shields to be clicked nude at age 10 and feature as a child prostitute in the controversial film ‘Pretty Baby’ in 1978 when she was 12.
Brooke began managing her own career in her 20s and claimed that her relationship with her mother deteriorated as a consequence.
