Designer Raghavendra Rathore turns painter

Designer Raghavendra Rathore has used colours and brushes on a canvas to give expression to his thoughts.

New Delhi: Designer Raghavendra Rathore has changed his medium - instead of clothes, he has used colours and brushes on a canvas to give expression to his thoughts.

"Art to me is a reflection of our times. Every emotion and the rigid landscape of life inspire the need to express thoughts on canvas and everything depends on the impulse of the moment," Rathore said. Describing it as a "passion", Rathore says that after his first artwork, he decided to study the methodology behind the painting techniques of Dutch master Johannes Vermeer. Rathore first showed an installation art work in New York in the early 1990`s and now he is showcasing his painting at a four-day exhibition at the Emporio Mall here. After that, his works will be displayed at the Ragini Arts for a week. He has drawn a painting titled ‘The Calling’ for it and admits to taking out time to devote to his passion. Describing his painting, Rathore said: "The power to be, the `means` to be, regardless of our plans we choose our actions and for a moment we cease to be. And then following our instinct, we chart our destiny, the inherent choice - no matter where it leads us, it`s our `Calling`." "Time is extremely valuable in the profession of a design entrepreneur. But art is a completely different paradigm," said Rathore. So how much time was devoted to this painting? "A painting is never finished, every time you look at it you want to go back to it," he said. Rathore`s mediums vary from wall paintings to small installations. In terms of content, figurative overtures are the strongest aspect of his artwork. IANS
