Robert De Niro to play Bernie Madoff

Melbourne: Robert De Niro is playing the role of Wall Street investor and scamster Bernie Madoff in the first major film to be made on the financial scam. De Niro is also producing the film with his partner Jane Rosenthall from his production company Tribeca productions.

The former Wall Street financial expert had swindled investors out of around 50 billion dollars in a ponzi scheme. He had been sentenced to 150 years in prison and his family has since disowned him. HBO have bought the recently published book ‘Truth and Consequences: Life Inside the Madoff Family’ which was written with the co-operation of Madoff``s son Andrew and other family members, the Daily Telegraph reported. The book, written by Laurie Sandell, describes the aftermath of Madoff``s arrest and the effect it had on his family. Last year his eldest son Mark committed suicide because of the shame brought upon by the scam. Mark’s wife Stephanie Madoff Mack has also written a book ‘The End of Normal: A Wife``s Anguish, A Widow``s New Life’. It is an intimate account of two years of despair after Bernie Madoff father``s admitted in December 2008 that his elite investment advisory business was ‘one big lie’. ANI
