West Indies

193/5(39 Overs)

We are back for the run chase.

... The Run Chase ...

UPDATE 3.38 am IST - There is some good news! The umpires have decided to get on with the play.

UPDATE 3.33 am IST (10.03 pm GMT, the previous day) - The live scenes from the ground depict the covers are on. There has been a bit of rain and it is gloomy out there. The umpires are currently out in the middle and hopefully, it is only a short delay. Stick around for further updates.

The visitors have not been able to play out their 50 overs! What a bowling performance from West Indies here. They have absolutely dominated an established batting lineup with two debutants in their bowling ranks. The decision to stack their team heavily with spinners has worked for the Windies. The pitch has done wonders for the slower bowlers as they have stifled New Zealand and restricted them to an under-par score of 190.

Right then, we shall take a short break and return for West Indies' reply. They have a strong batting lineup but lack consistency and West Indies will hope that they are able to get them over the finish line. New Zealand have gone into the game with just two frontline spinners, unlike their opponents who had three. There is assistance for the bowlers and they will be hoping to put on a disciplined performance. They need early wickets if they are to have a chance in this game. Do join us soon.Â

Yannic Cariah comes up for a chat and he says that it is a great feeling as he worked hard for years to reach here and it feels good. Adds that when he came on to bowl, he tried to express himself and he is grateful that it came off. Says that the wicket will get better and praises Akeal Hosein for the way he bowled. Ends by saying that he is confident that the batters will chase it down and the key is to put pressure on the bowlers from the get-go.

The hosts will be most pleased with the way the bowlers have executed their plans today. This has been one of the most complete bowling performances we have seen from the Windies in the recent past. The fast bowlers, at the start of the innings, were unable to get wickets but the introduction of spinners towards the end of the first Powerplay completely turned the game in the favor of the West Indies. They kept pegging away at the wickets with Akeal Hosein clearly the pick of the bowlers takin

New Zealand started off well with a 41-run opening partnership but lost both their openers in quick succession. The scoring dropped drastically after the West Indies brought on their spinners into the attack. The skipper Kane Williamson hung around for a bit but kept losing his partners at the other end. When he was dismissed, New Zealand were six down for the score of 122 on the board. The lower order chipped in with a few runs to push their total close to the 200 mark. New Zealand will be

Tim Southee moves a long way across the off stump as he attempts the scoop. The ball sneaks under his willow and goes on to shatter the leg stump. This is a good comeback from Holder after receiving a bit of stick early in the innings and New Zealand are just one wicket away from getting bundled out.

Trent Boult is the last man in for New Zealand. Also, Jason Holder is on a hat-trick now.
