New Delhi: Hours after reports of KL Rahul missing the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 emerged due to a shoulder injury, it was revealed that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have already started hunting for the wicketkeeper-batsman's replacement, in earnest.
According to a report in Sportskeeda, Tamil Nadu's Narayan Jagadeesan could well be the player to come in for Rahul. It has been said that Jagadeesan has been already called for a trial by the franchise.
“I got a call from RCB to give a trial on April 2nd, but I have no idea on how many players will take part in the trial. It would be great if I could make it to the squad, but at the moment, I have no expectations going into the trials,” Jagadeesan was quoted as saying in the report.
Earlier today, the Virat Kohli-led franchise was dealt another blow when Rahul was all but confirmed of missing the world's premier cricket tournament.
Rahul had hurt his left shoulder in the first Test against Australia, but he continued to play through pain for the rest of the series.
Kohli himself is recuperating from a shoulder injury, one he picked up during the India-Australia third Test in Ranchi.
Notably, Jagadeesan was one of the stars in the 2017 Deodhar Trophy tournament. The 21-year-old turned up as a specialist batsman for Tamil Nadu, scoring 190 runs at an average of 63.33 and a strike-rate of 95.
He was also the leading run scorer and the Player of the Tournament at 2016 Tamil Nadu Premier League.
