NEW DELHI: Services of the Violet Line of Delhi Metro were yet again hampered for nearly an hour on Tuesday morning due to a technical snag between Mandi House and ITO metro stations. "There was a track circuit drop between Mandi House and ITO section on up line (going towards Kashmere Gate station) from 8:30-9:20 am. As a result, trains were passing in manual mode in this segment, resulting in little bunching for successive trains during this period," a senior DMRC official said.
Services were normalised later. Violet Line connects Kashmere Gate in Delhi to Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad. Mandi House Station is an interchange facility between Violet Line and Blue Line (Dwarka-Noida line).
Earlier in June, Delhi Metro services at Model Town station were disrupted for at least half an hour when an injured peacock crossed over onto the track. Train services were brought to a halt as the peacock fell on the track due to its injury. It is reported that the bird was spotted by alert cleaning staff members and was eventually - and carefully - brought to safety. The incident occurred around 9:45 am when the peak office rush usually descends in stations across the city.
Wildlife SOS was contacted by Metro officials and the peacock was handed over to them.
Recently, PM Narendra Modi had said that commuters should get rid of private vehicles and opt for metro rail services. “Our priority is to build convenient, comfortable and affordable urban transport systems in our cities," he had said.
"The process of making Metro systems is also linked to cooperative federalism. Wherever Metros are being built in India, the Centre and the respective state Governments are working together," he had said.
