Rajasthan writes off loan of farmers in IGNP Command area
Jaipur, May 25: Rajasthan today announced that the loans given to the farmers in the Indira Gandhi Canal Project (IGNP) area for leveling of lands under world food programme has been written off.

The decision would benefit 17,250 farmers in Bikaner and Jaisalmer districts, IGNP Minister Bhanwar Lal said here in an official release.
The farmers were given interest free loan to the tune of Rs 4.36 crore between 1984 and 1998 for leveling their land in IGNP Command area. Of which only 76.29 lakh could be realised back, release said. The state government has now decided to write off the remaining amount of about Rs 3.60 crore, it said.
Each farmer was given interest free loan of Rs 5,000 to be repaid in four equal installments after two years of disbursal. Administrative and financial sanctions have been issued for writing off of the loans, it added.
