Kolkata, July 28: In a desperate effort to raise resources, the cash-strapped West Bengal government has decided to impose tax on set-top boxes required for viewing pay channels under the Conditional Access System (CAS) scheduled to be operational in the metropolis from September 1. "Tax will be imposed on set-top boxes when they are introduced in the market," Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta told newsmen in his assembly chamber today. Replying to questions, Dasgupta, however, did not disclose the nature of the tax and its quantum on the proposed tax on set-top boxes. Bureau Report
