Mangalore, June 15: In a rare medical case, a baby boy from Sullia near here has been found to have whitish
colour blood in his body.
"It is a very rare case that severe whitish colour blood is found in a new born. It is due to the presence of excess quantity of cholestrol and triglyceride in the blood," Dr Srikrishna Bhat, a child specialist said over phone from
Sullia today.
Bhat said that the parents, hailing from Sullia, 75 kms from here, who wanted anonymity had brought the infant six months ago which was sufferring from lung problem.
"Ideally the fat content in the plasma should be 200 millilitres, but the child has over 2,000 millilitres of fat content in the blood," he said and added the rare abnormality is found in one in 1.5 lakh people.
Bhat attributed the case to a genetic disorder and added that the parents` blood did not have any trace of it.
He said that though the disorder could be treated through plasma pheresis, there was no guarantee of it being cured and the child would have a lifespan between five to thirty years.
"The next generation of the baby will have similar blood disorder," Bhat said.
