Interestingly, when a Pradosham falls on a Monday, then it is called Soma Pradosham. If it happens to be on a Tuesday then referred to as Bhauma Pradosham and on a Saturday it is called Shani Pradosham.

Shani Pradosham (elimination of sins) vrat (fast) happens to be on November 12, 2016, and devotees of lord Shiva across India observe it, as it is considered to be a sacred day dedicated to the Lord.

Pradosham is considered very auspicious as it is believed that one can eliminate all his/her sins on this day. One can fulfill all his/her wishes and desires on this day by fasting and praying to lord Shiva.

The renowned story of Lord Shiva drinking the poison from the river to save the world is the reason behind celebrating Pradosham.

The day begins by bathing and observing a fast before the sunrise. It is then followed by worshipping lord Shiva, his wife Parvati and his kids, Ganesh and Kartikeya. Lord Shiva's Maha Mrityunjaya mantra is chanted 108 times and sacred ash is applied on the forehead. Lightning even a single diya (earthen lamp) appeases the god and yields highly fruitful results.

Pradosham lasts for 2 hours 24 minutes before sunset. Shani Pradosham is also very significant for the married couples as observing the vrat gives them a blessed conjugal life.

With nearing the end of 2016, it is time to wash away all your bad deeds and achieve the success on this glorious day.
