Discussing social issues using art as the medium

New Delhi: People from different walks of life came together in the capital to deliberate on social issues by using art as a medium, the organisers said Saturday.
Apne Aap, a charitable trust that works toward the empowerment of girls and women, organised its first series of `Terrace Talks` in collaboration with Rang, a Delhi-based community of young artists, at the India International Centre Friday. Photojournalist, artist and activist Ram Rahman presided over the session, focused on history and culture. "A picture doesn`t always have to be hugely dramatic. An ordinary picture can be filled with dramatic elements," he said. According to Abhilasha Kumari, director of Apne Aap, photography has had a social connect right through history and has played a big role in changing laws. "Initiatives like this will form a community where people can freely exchange their ideas. In the company of experienced moderators one gets thoughtful perspectives," she said. The organisers plan to make Terrace Talks a monthly event. IANS Pic courtesy: npr.org
