Hyderabad, May 28: A drunk labourer, Yellaiah, created a scene at the Parsi-gutta crossroads on Thursday by climbing an electric pole and threatening to kill himself by touching a live wire. The furious Yellaiah threatened suicide apparently because his wife refused to give him money to buy liquor. Local people gathered at the spot and waved currency notes trying to tempt the intoxicated man to come down. They promised to give him money to buy liquor if he came down. Finally, Yellaiah came down but he had suffered burn injuries on his hand, back and neck. He was rushed to the Gandhi Hospital where he was treated. The Chilkalaguda police visited the spot. Sub-Inspec-tor Narsing Rao said Yellaia-h’s wife had been complaining that his drinking had created financial problems for the family. “He was harassing her demanding money every day,” the police officer said.
