The Delhi High Court extended until March 15 its deadline to the Delhi government to hold general elections to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC),
A division bench comprising chief justice S B Shina and justice A K Sikri observed that inefficiency of the state government was writ large on the face of the case. It shows its lethargy in not holding the elections, they said after the Delhi government expressed its inability to hold the DSGMC elections by January 31, citing staff shortage because of the February municipal polling.
A Delhi government counsel said the administration was busy with the revision of electoral rolls for the municipal elections and that it did not have enough staff to make the necessary arrangements for the DSGMC elections.
General elections to the DSGMC, supposed to be held every four years, were last held in 1995. DSGMC chief Avtar Singh Hit said he was ''fully satisfied with the court order. What we want are general elections to the DSGMC which are overdue since 1999''.
