Afghanistan, outlawed from the Olympics, could be in the 2004 Games in Athens following the fall of the Taliban regime, said IOC director general Francois Carrard.
The Afghanistan National Olympic Committee was suspended by the IOC when the Taliban took control of the country because of its treatment of women. But with a new government being put in place Carrard said that as soon as the opportunity arose talks could reopen with the national Olympic committee.
Carrard added that while it might be difficult for Afghanistan to put together various national teams for Athens it might be possible that individual athletes could compete. Bureau Report
