New Delhi, July 03: Privatised distribution companies (discoms) in the capital particularly reliance group promoted BSES Rajdhani and Yamuna Power Ltd today drew flak from the Centre over the slow progress on various parameters. Speaking at a seminar here, power secretary R V Shahi said the speed of implementation needs to be faster pointing to BSES group.
He noted that the other distribution company Tata Group NDPL had performed slightly better.
Shahi said distribution companies need to be better prepared adding that last year the preparation was slow.
He was hopeful that by next year strengthening of the distribution set up would be over.
The secretary added that the Centre was monitoring the developments in the capital on a quarterly basis and had entrusted the task of finding weak links at the distribution and sub transmission level to central electricity authority.
Further work needs to be done at transmission stage at higher levels of 220 and 440 kv, he added.
On the issue of curbing transmission and distribution losses, he said although Delhi government had failed to put in place an anti theft legislation it would not make a difference to the current spate of reforms as the Centre has already enacted provisions for the same within the recently passed electricity bill.
While BSES holds distribution rights over two circles in Delhi, NDPL holds the rights over the remaining areas.
