Kolkata, Jan 06: Battling for life for the last six days, police sergeant Bapi Sen died at a city hospital this morning failing to recover from the severe assault from five constables for resisting them from eve-teasing. Police sources said Sen, who was in deep coma and put on life support system on January two, succumbed at 6:30 am.
Hospital sources, however, refused to divulge any detail.
Sen, a traffic sergeant, was beaten unconscious by the five drunken policemen when he intervened as they were teasing a young woman on new year`s eve and suffered serious injuries at the rear of his head. Sen as well as the policemen were off duty at the time.

The police has initiated a high-level inquiry into the incident.

While two of the eve-teaser constables were arrested on January one, the other three surrendered the next day.

The five accused were in judicial custody since January two, but following a public outcry, the state prayed for their police remand stating that there had been new developments in the case. Bureau Report
