New Delhi, July 14: Fiat India has firmed up plans to
export 4,000 cars to Singapore and Indonesia over the next few
years, its biggest-ever export deal which is expected to be
worth Rs 160 crore.
The company would export 1,000 units of the 1.6 litre
petrol versions of its hatchback car 'Palio' and station wagon
'Adventure' to Singapore over the next one year, fiat India
Director (Commercial) Ananda Mohan Gupta told a news agency.
"Right now, the homologation of the cars is taking place
which should be completed soon. The cars will be shipped as
Completely-Built-Units (CBUs) to a Singapore dealer," Gupta
said.
Besides, Fiat India would also export over 3,000 petrol 'Palio' cars to Indonesia over the next three years. The company presently sells about 40 units of the compact car 'Uno' in Bangladesh every month, Gupta said adding, exports of 'Palio' have also commenced to the neighbouring nation. "We are also exploring export opportunities in Sri Lanka and other countries which have right-hand drive vehicles," he said. The company has already secured an order to export the 1.6 litre version of its mid-size car 'Siena' to Nepal from this month. Fiat India has exported about 90 units of the petrol 'Palio' to Nepal and has also received enquiries for the 1.9 litre diesel 'Palio', according to Gupta.
The 'Palio' and 'Siena' which are based on fiat's popular '178 world-car' platform are manufactured with 1.2 litre and 1.6 litre engine options.
