Srinagar, Feb 04: A delegation from the native village of a Parliament attack case convict, Syed Abdul Rehman Geelani, today met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and appealed to him to "intervene and seek justice" for the former Delhi University lecturer. The delegation from Tawheedgunj, his native village in Baramulla submitted a voluminous 700-page file of 25,000 signatures of residents of Baramulla testifying Geelani's innocence to Sayeed.

The delegation appealed to Sayeed to take up with the Centre the matter of unconditional release of Geelani who, they said, "is innocent and purely a teacher and a scholar." Later talking to a news agency, Shabbir Ahmad Darzi, who was heading the eight member delegation, contended that Geelani did not get a "fair trial" and that similar fears had been expressed by amnesty international and some eminent personalities in the country. He said the signature campaign would continue.
