New Delhi, Oct 16: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), attended by top military and intelligence officers and security experts, reviewed troop deployment on the border with Pakistan. The committee, chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will take the opinions of the three service chiefs, intelligence heads and members of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) on whether the more than ten-month old deployment should continue or there was scope for relaxation.
The CCS will meet again later today to take a final decision on the matter after considering the recommendations made at the NSAB meeting.
Among those who attended the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, defence minister George Fernandes, external affairs minister Yashwant Sinha, finance minister Jaswant Singh, national security advisor Brajesh Mishra, Chief of Army Staff Gen S Padmanabhan, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal S Krishnaswamy, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Madhvendra Singh and the heads of the intelligence bureau and RAW.
The troops have been mobilised on the border since the December 13 terrorist attack on Parliament.
