Srinagar, Aug 18: Speaking to reporters in here, Kashmir Committee chairman Ram Jethmalani said the panel on Sunday had achieved limited success. As of now 13 parties have agreed to participate in J&K polls under a newly formed umbrella called the Jammu Kashmir Resolution Front. On the decision of postponement of polls, Jethmalani added that the decision lies with the Election Commission.
Though, he expressed disappointment in the Kashmir Committee`s inability to secure participation of Hurriyat Conference in the coming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Kashmir Committee is slightly disappointed that it has not yet secured participation of Hurriyat in the elections but the dialogue will continue in Delhi," Jethmalani told reporters here.
"We hope to achieve a breakthrough in a couple of days when the next round of talks is held," he said after the Committee met separatist leader Shabir Ahmed Shah and former Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Jethmalani said some former militants, who had recently floated a political party, wanted to contest the elections if they were held in a free and fair manner.
"We assure them that the polls will be free and fair," he said.
He also appealed to the people of the state to come forth in voting during elections. Bureau Report
