New Delhi,Feb 18: The Indian cricket team on Monday became an object of mockery in Parliament too.
Two days after its humiliating defeat by Australia in the World Cup, just the mention of the team evoked scoffs in the Central Hall of Parliament during President A P J Abdul Kalam's address to a Joint Sitting of both Houses.
"Honourable Members, let us send our best wishes to the Indian cricket team playing in the World Cup tournament in South Africa," the President said, immediately drawing derisive laughter so loud that he had to gesture to the members to calm down. Similar ridicule was repeated when Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, who was reading out the Hindi version of the speech, mentioned the cricket team. Bureau Report
