Jammu, Nov 02: Encouraged by the promise of the cricket board, Jammu and Kashmir is hoping to stage an international cricket match at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in the valley next year.
Minister of Sports in the state Haji Nisar Ali said here that BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya had promised to allot a match to the state after a request was made in this regard by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed.
If all goes well, it would be the first time after 15 years that the state would host an international cricket match. The last match played here was an India-West Indies encounter in 1988.
The positive development has come in the wake of changing ground situation, Ali said.
There has been a spurt in sporting activities in the last few months with the state playing host to national as well as international events.
The School Games Federation of India, in collaboration with the state sport department, successfully hosted the under-19 C K Nayudu cricket tournament and also held camps for football and hockey recently. Bureau Report
