Bogota, Aug 10: Fifty people are dead after heavy fighting between leftist guerrillas and right-wing paramilitaries in Colombia's northern Bolivar region, Army General Martin Orlando Carreno said Friday.
"In the San Lucas foothills (Bolivar department), as a product of clashes between members of the right wing paramilitaries and rebels with the FARC and ELN... there are 30 members of the paramilitaries dead and almost 20 of the FARC dead in those clashes," Carreno said.

The army says fighting in the region has been raging since August 2.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) is Colombia's main rebel force, and the National Liberation Army (ELN) the number-two guerrilla army. Bureau Report
