Mild snowfall accompanied by rain and hail lashed several hilly areas of Garhwal and Kumaon region of Uttaranchal on Saturday night, official reports on Sunday said.
Higher reaches of Kamet, Trishuli, Nandadevi, Chaukhamba peaks in Garhwal region and Dharchoola area in Kumaon region received mild snowfall bringing in chilly weather conditions in the entire hilly region. People residing in the hilly areas took out their winter clothes and quilts as chilly winds blew that paralysed normal life, the report said.
Heavy rains coupled with hailstorm also lashed in Alaknanda, Dhauli, Birhee, Nandakini and Pinder valleys in Garhwal region which also damaged standing crops of wheat, apple, apricot and chestnut. In Mussoorie, tourists last night rejoiced in heavy rains which considerably lowered the temperature.
However, there were no reports of any landslides in the Chardham yatra route.
