Chandigarh, Apr 21: Shiromani Akali Dal chief and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal today accused the state government of "lying and misguiding" governor J F R Jacob on the Punjab Public Service Commission issue.
Expressinng "shock and disbelief" over the manner in which the congress regime was trying to "completely politicise the constitutional body,” Badal said in a statement here that the gravity of the situation can be judged from the fact that even the Congress-appointed chairman of the selection body has not bought the chief minister`s claim that the PPSC needed to be enlarged to cope with increased workload.
The government had reportedly sought the governor`s permission for adding two additional members to the selection panel in view of 735 promotion cases still pending before the commission. The PPSC members, led by Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Surjit Singh Sangra, reportedly passed a unanimous resolution, questioning the government`s rationale behind the move to appoint two additional members.
The commission has reportedly taken the government`s argument as an insinuation against their competence and said that no cases of promotion were pending before the commission.
"If the Chief Minister of the state is indulging in such broad-day light falsehoods, one can hardly fail to be alarmed at the shocking decline in public morality and official accountability ever since Captain Amarinder Singh took over,” Badal said.
Badal appealed to the Governor to recall the entire records and review the case.
