Sanaa, Dec 11: The Yemeni government admitted today it ordered Scud missiles from North Korea and strongly protested to the United States and Spain over their interception of the shipment on the high seas. Foreign Minister Abu Baker Abdullah al-Kurbi called Washington's Ambassador Edmund Hull to his office and handed over a letter of protest, the official Saba news agency reported.
Fifteen Scud missiles fitted with 15 highly explosive conventional warheads were found aboard a ship stopped Monday by two Spanish Navy vessels off the coast of Yemen, Spain said today. US investigators were inspecting the shipment, American officials said.
Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh confirmed in August that Sanaa had bought and received Scuds from Pyongyang and insisted it had the right to do so. Bureau Report
