Gadar: Love knows no boundaries
A: Well, Gadar is a period movie about the Indo-Pak partition, it is a film on how people were massacred during the partition and how, in those strife torn times, love blossoms and succeeds.
Q: What kind of role you are playing in Gadar?
A: I am playing the role of a truck driver who chances across the beautiful Sakina (Amisha Patel) during one of his journeys. Love blossoms and grows silently. Then comes the trauma and hardship of Partition.
Q: How much of research as an actor did you put into the character. How far do you think you’ve been successful?
A. I didn’t go too much into research work as such. All I did was to discuss the role with people at my home as they have felt the trauma of partition first hand. Besides that, everybody has done a great job. The director has put in tremendous effort and a whole lot of research. Q: How was working with Amisha Patel?
A. This is her second film. She is very new to the whole thing. She understood the character very well and has done a great job. Amisha has been a very nice person to work with.
Q: How different are Lagaan and Gadar? And how similar they are?
A. Well, the similarity is that both the films are period based. I don’t know whether Lagaan is pre-independence or is based on partition.
Q: Third simultaneous release with an Amir starrer. What are the expectations this time?
A: Yes! (laughs) This is a hat-trick of sorts. Two films releasing on the same date is not a big thing. We are not to bother about that, both of us have worked hard. Q: What expectations you have of this film?
A: Expectations are always there. But I don’t take them seriously. Its true I would love to hear more about this film.
