New Delhi, Apr 25: Government today faced embarrassing moments in Lok Sabha when a member of the ruling NDA raised the quorum issue forcing adjournment of the house for the day during private members' business. The house was debating on a resolution on implementation of policies and programmes for scheduled castes and tribes when C Krishnan of MDMK pointed out that there was no quorum. Ironically, it is the responsibility of the treasury benches to ensure quorum in the house.

Parliamentary affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who rushed into the house as the quorum bell rang, was seen speaking to the MDMK member.

When Union minister Sahib Singh Verma and BJP member Rassa Singh Rawat pointed out that Krishnan had "realised his mistake" and was willing to withdraw his plea, Devendra Prasad Yadav, who was in the chair, said the process to ensure quorum had already begun and it could not be reversed.

After the quorum bell when requisite number of 54 members could not be mustered, Yadav first adjourned the house for 30 minutes and then for the day after it reassembled at 1730 hours. Bureau Report
