Tom Hanks starrer `Captain Phillips` to open New York Film Festival

Washington: `Captain Phillips`, starring Tom Hanks, is all set to open New York Film Festival 2013 in September, it has been revealed.

The festival`s organizers made the announcement on Monday, CBS News reported.

Chair Kent Jones, NYFF Director of Programming and Selection Committee, branded the movie "a riveting experience".

The film, which is helmed by Paul Greengrass, revolved around the true story of the 2009 hijacking of the US cargo ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates.
