Srinagar, Nov 24: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today asked the security forces to ensure that innocent civilians were not harmed or put to inconvenience while dealing with militancy. Reviewing the overall security and law and order situation in Kashmir valley at a meeting of senior officers of police and paramilitary forces here, the Chief Minister also directed them to inform the concerned deputy commissioners and senior superintendents of police about the whereabouts of persons taken into custody for interrogation.
"Security forces should ensure that no innocent person was harmed or put to inconvenience while dealing with militancy," Sayeed said adding that his government was determined to restore peace in the state even in the face of violence and killings.


Kashmir valley witnessed a sudden spurt in militant activities yesterday which claimed 21 lives and over 35 others injured in the mine blasts and grenade attacks carried out by militants across the valley. The meeting took stock of the security scenario in all the districts of the valley and the participating officers briefed the chief minister about the situation obtaining in their respective areas, an official spokesman said after the meeting.

The minister for rural development, Pirzada Muhammad Sayeed, Director General of Police A K Suri, senior officers of Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Indo-Tibetan border police and J&K police attended the meeting.
