Hyderabad, Oct 30: Carrying dreams of becoming
future champions in some event one day or a hope to catch a
glimpse of their favourite sportspersons, a large number of
school kids have been thronging the various venues of the
Afro-Asian Games here.
But the major hit with the people of this historical city
remains the Tennis Complex at the Lal Bahadur Stadium where
local lass Sania Mirza stormed into as many as four finals in
her "own home".
Students from various schools and colleges made a beeline at the stadium which was bubbling with activity and enthusiasm with many locals making it a point to witness Sania in action and applaud her medal winning performance.
Young girls from Stanely Girls High School were so excited with the match that they wanted to part of the action being unfolding at the venue. Sania's schoolmates, disappointed by the rain which delayed the semifinals yesterday for some time, had recited the nursery rhyme Rain, Rain Go Away, Little Sania Wants to Play."
Dressed in green and white, the NASR school students were the most exuberant and active spectators at the venue. The heavens stopped pouring at noon and the darling of Hyderabad crowd cruised into finals where she overcame compatriot Rushmi Chakravarthy amidst thunderous applause.
