An organisation of Kuki students in the capital has alleged that their tribe was the worst-affected in NSCN (I-M)'s armed campaign and demanded representation in any peace deliberation with the outfit.
More than 200 students belonging to the Kuki students' organisation, staged a demonstration here today to protest the extension of ceasefire with the NSCN(I-M) beyond Nagaland, saying it would not bring peace but instead increase the Naga outfit's atrocities against Kukis. As long as the age-old dispute between the two tribes regarding land holdings is not solved, there can be no peace in the region, Said D M Touthang (Chawngthu), President of the students' organisation.
"There can be a lasting solution only if the Kukis are also included in any talks between the government and the NSCN (I-M)," He said. In a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the organisation sought assurance from the government that it would give due representation to both communities in any attempt to solve the Naga problem.

So far, 900 Kukis have lost their lives and 50,000 have been displaced, while 350 Kuki villages have been uproooted by the NSCN (I-M), the memorandum said, adding The ceasefire would further threaten the lives and land of Kukis as the NSCN (I-M) would go on a rampage against Kukis more freely.
