Norway, a nation of 4.5 million people, has 23,600 first-
and second-generation Pakistanis, making them the
third-largest immigrant group after Swedes and Danes,
according to the state agency statistics Norway. Many are now
Norwegian citizens and often visit their homeland.
About 6,000 people of Indian descent live in Norway, the agency said.
Indian and Pakistani troops have been exchanging artillery and machine-gun fire in Kashmir, which is claimed by both nuclear-capable countries. The two countries have fought three wars over the border province since 1947.
Meanwhile, the Swedish armed forces said nine relatives of Swedish UN observers in Kashmir had flown out of Pakistan today morning following a recommendation by the world body.
