Sofia Coppola drops out of 'The Little Mermaid'

Sofia Coppola has exited the Universal Pictures' live-action film "The Little Mermaid" amid reports of creative differences.

Los Angeles: Sofia Coppola has exited the Universal Pictures' live-action film "The Little Mermaid" amid reports of creative differences.

The "Lost In Translation" filmmaker had been attached to bring the classic tale back to the big screen since March but now she has decided to depart from the project because she could not see eye to eye with the creative team, reported Deadline.

Coppola took over from British director Joe Wright, who had initially been attached to the film, but dropped out to concentrate on his "Peter Pan" prequel, "Pan".

The new "The Little Mermaid" project is the latest adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's tale - the most successful of which is Disney's 1989 animated version.
