New Delhi: You don't really need a day to celebrate the power of music and dance. But April 30th, every year is marked as an International Jazz Day by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The day is marked in order to celebrate the virtue of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for peace, unity, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people, as per UNESCO. This special day for celebrating the essence of Jazz was announced during the UNESCO General Conference in November 2011.

Paris, the city of love was the first one to see the celebration of this day by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock, reportedly. Reports further suggest that UNESCO partners with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.

Interestingly, music composer Amit Trivedi took to his Twitter handle and wished everyone on jazz day. He wrote: "Happy world jazz day to everyone.. Perfect day to enjoy bombay velvet music.."
