Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has urged Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to initiate dialogue with insurgent outfits of the state even as the banned Ulfa has accused Gogoi of lacking political will to begin talks, official sources said on Monday.
During his discussions with the Prime Minister at Dibrugarh before he left for New Delhi on Sunday evening, Gogoi appealed the Centre to initiate dialogue similar to the ongoing peace process with the NSCN(IM) of Nagaland.
The chief minister pointed out to Vajpayee that the state has been tormented by insurgency for almost the last 20 years and this has severely affected the economic development of the state, the sources said.

The state government has time and again expressed its desire that the Ulfa and other insurgent groups should abjure the path of violence and come forward for talks, Gogoi said.
