New Delhi, May 20: AICC`s Kashmir committee had a meeting today in the backdrop of National Conference claims that 18 members of the PDP-led coaltion were ready to break ranks and support NC to form the government. State PCC president Ghulam Nabi Azad refuted the claim of the NC chief Omar Abdullah and said that no political significance needed to be attached to the Kashmir committee meeting
"The NC president`s statement is for local consumption... To keep the flock together which was at the verge of disintegration", Azad, who is a member of the Kashmir committee,said.
He said it was the first meeting of the committee which was reconstituted by Congress president Sonia Gandhi recently as part of the reshuffle of the AICC secretariat.
Senior party leader Manmohan Singh is heading the committee and has Ambika Soni, Ahmed Patel, Arjun Singh, Pranab Mukherjee, Karan Singh, M L Fotedear, Saifuddin Soz and J N Dixit. Bureau Report
