London: Bruno Mars won his second solo UK No. 1 single on Sunday with ‘Grenade,’ recording the highest sales total for a January release in the market for 15 years.
`Grenade` sold close to 150,000 units last week, according to the Official Charts Company, to record the highest weekly sale in the first month of the year since Babylon Zoo`s ‘Spaceman’ sold 383,000 copies in January, 1996. Mars first topped the UK chart last October with ‘Just The Way You Are (Amazing),’ which held sway for two non-consecutive weeks. Rihanna lost the top spot she occupied last week with ‘What`s My Name,’ featuring Drake, falling 1-3, but started a third week atop the album chart with ‘Loud.’ Jessie J, the winner of the Critics` Choice title at next month`s BRIT Awards, climbed 5-2 on the singles chart with ‘Do It Like A Dude.’ David Guetta`s ‘Who`s That Chick,’ featuring Rihanna, climbed 10-6. Adele`s 2008 single ‘Make You Feel My Love’ jumped again 27-7, and her first album ‘19’ moved 20-6, just as her new single ‘Rolling in the Deep’ is released Monday. Her sophomore album ‘21’ follows January 24. There was also a No. 10 debut for pop quartet JLS` new release ‘Eyes Wide Shut.’ ‘Loud’ stayed at the album summit as Plan B`s ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’ remained at No. 2. Cee Lo Green`s ‘The Ladykiller’ and Rumer`s ‘Seasons of My Soul’ climbed 4-3 and 6-4 respectively. Bureau Report
