Jammu, Oct 05: Alleging National Conference of sabotaging all peace initiatives, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that peace cannot be restored in the state as long as the NC remains in power.
"As long as NC is at the helm of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, peace shall remain a distant dream for the people of this insurgency-hit state," Azad said addressing a series of election meetings at Kishtwar, Batote and Mallah in Doda districts, yesterday.
He accused the ruling party of sabotaging all peace initiatives on Kashmir and said NC has vested interest in prolonging the present situation.
Azad said that restoration of peace will be a top priority of Congress, if voted to power, through a meaningful dialogue with all divergent sections and dissenting groups.
The JKPCC chief said that chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah betrayed the then central government and the people of the state who elected a popular government in 1996.
