In a bid to check piracy, the Delhi High Court restrained cable operators in the country from exhibiting latest Hindi film `Nayak`, starring Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee in the lead role. The film, which has Sushmita Sen and Amrish Puri among other actors, was released for universal exhibition throughout the country. Justice Vijender Jain, while issuing notices to several cable operators on a suit filed by film`s producer Srisurya Movies, in an ex-parte interim order said that the cable operators, their franchises, distributors, asssignees and any other person would not show the movie on their network till January 18, the next date of hearing. Cable operators -- In Cables, Win Cables, Sun Network, Film Fare Home Entertainment and Shanta Cables, who were issued notices, were directed by the court to file their replies by the next date.
The court also directed SHOs of the concerned police stations to assist the producer and distributor of the film in carrying out its direction when any complaint was brought to their notice. Lawyer Sanjay Abbot, appearing for Srisurya Movies, owned by A M Ratnam, in the suit said that cable operators had been showing the new films illegally on their network through pirated cassettes, VCD and DVDs.
Such illegal exhibition of the film would result in great financial loss to the producer, Abbot said.
