New Delhi, May 01: The Congress party today decided to change its candidates for two constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh—Bijnor and Bulandshahar. Imtiyaz Khan who was declared as Congress candidate for Bulandhsahar has been changed. Now Chandrashekhar Sharma has been made the new official candidate.
While at Bijnor, Momin Conference had declared its candidate after reaching an understanding with the Congress party. But now at this reserved constituency, the Congress has declared Jiraj Singh as its official candidate.
Bijnor is one of the eight odd seats in Rohilkhand region where Muslims comprise 40 per cent of the electorates. BJP candidate Sheeshram Singh Ravi, who won from here in the last polls, is pitted again BSP candidate Ghanshyam Chandra Kharwar.
While at Bulandshahar, BJP stalwart and former Chief Minister of UP Kalyan Singh, who recently came back to party fold, is contesting. Chhatra Pal of the BJP has been won this seat four times in a row from 1991. Since this place is close to Delhi, Congress party is expected to give a tough fight to BJP.
The polls on both these seats will be held on May 10.
