Paris, May 27: Younes el Aynaoui, Morocco's 23rd seed, advertised his talents a little too much yesterday - and resorted to a questionable motivation technique in seeing off Frenchman Anthony Dupuis 6-4 6-4 6-4 to reach the second round of the French Open. Before the match he was seen in earnest discussion with match officials because, "according to the referee, my (shirt) advertising was a bit too visible".

He explained: "I've been wearing it like this for a few years now so I didn't understand," he said.

"It's a bit annoying to get these questions from the referee who is there to referee the match." Grand slam events follow strict rules on the size of advertising on players' garments.

El Aynaoui, a 31-year-old from Rabat, has never been past the fourth round here in seven visits to Roland Garros but is getting better with age having finished in the world top 20 last year for the first time after bagging three titles.

And he's happy to use unorthodox methods if they bring results.

Asked why he hit himself on the head several times with his racquet he grinned.

"That doesn't cost anything. It wakes me up, puts me back into the game."

And into a second-round meeting with Christophe Rochus of Belgium.
