Kathmandu, Mar 21: An armed group of suspected Maoists today triggered a blast at the control tower of Meghauli airport in Chitwan district, an official said. Five masked suspected Maoists, including a woman, entered the tower and planted the explosive device, which they detonated through a wire from a distance of 400 meter, chief of the airport Keshav Lamsal said.

The explosion caused an extensive damage to the Rs three million tower, besides destroying vital records.

The airport is close to Royal Chitwan National Park, which is a major tourist attraction, and today's damage would affect flights, he said.

All the flights to Meghauli airport have been cancelled until the tower is repaired, he added.
Meanwhile, the Maoists attacked a district prison, police office and army barrack in Myagdi district last night.

The attack, which began at around midnight, continued until morning, the state run radio Nepal said.
