New Delhi, Sept 03: A key witness in the 'tandoor'
murder case, in which former Delhi Youth Congress president
Sushil Sharma is facing trial for allegedly killing his wife,
today tried to give a new twist to the incident claiming that
the corpse he saw inside the 'tandoor' was that of a man.
The statement of Mahesh Prasad, the security guard of
Ashok Yatri Niwas, before additional session judge G P
Thareja came as a setback to the prosecution, which alleged
that Sharma after killing his wife Naina Sahni had tried to
burn her body with the help of his associate Keshav in the
tandoor (oven) of 'Bagia' restaurant within the hotel in 1995.
The witness also failed to identify Sharma and Keshav in the court, when the judge asked him to do so.
"I had never seen the owner of Bagiya restaurant though I had heard his name," Prasad during his cross-examination said. Sharma was then running the restaurant on contract and Keshav was the man who was managing its affairs, police had said.
While failing to identify Keshav, the witness said as per his information there were two managers - Handa and Peter.
He told the court that he had seen the "head" of the body inside the 'tandoor' and it "resembled that of a male."
"On the basis of the face which I had seen. From the head, I can say that the dead body was of a male," he said.
To a specific query by Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) A P Ahluwalia, Prasad said he had not made any statement before the police about the case during the investigation.
