Bangkok, Jan 30: Nick Faldo, the former world number one was a stroke ahead of fellow Englishman Ian Poulter, who had to undergo an intense early morning massage after waking with severe back pain, along with Australians Jarrod Moseley and Scott Gardiner and American Edward Loar. Australia's Marcus Fraser, Sweden's Marten Olander, Ander Hansen of Denmark and Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand were next best on five-under-par. British Open champion Ben Curtis, along with fellow American Mike Cunning, were in a large group tied on four-under-par 68. Defending champion Ernie Els of South Africa finished on 2-under after a round that included six birdies but four bogeys.
