New Delhi, Feb 23: UTI investor services ltd has awarded the Rs 70-crore contract for printing and supplying National Social Security Number (NSSN) cards to Zicom Electronic Security Systems Ltd. Zicom is expected to print around five crore cards over-year period beginning March 2004, UTI investor services said in a statement here today. The scheme is steered by the employees provident fund organisation while the job of printing the cards is being handled by UTI investor services. President A P J Abdul Kalam had launched the Ministry of Labour's NSSN scheme on February 25, 2003 with a view to provide social security to 3.5 crore workers in the organised sector.
In January this year, the scheme was extended to 37 crore workers in the unorganised sector.
Under NSSN scheme, a permanent social security number will be allotted to each worker, which will be constant irrespective of transfer of workers to another place or change of employment.
