Pak takes over presidency of UN Security Council for a month
Islamabad, May 01: Pakistan today took over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council for a month, assuming the post for the second time since it became a non-permanent member of the council last year.

Pakistan which was elected to the UN Security Council under the category of non-permanent members for a two-year term last year would formally relinquish its membership of the council at the end of this year, when a new set of elected non-permanent members take over.
Islamabad held the presidency of the UN Security Council for a month last year as all the members routinely hold the post once in a year on a rotational basis.
Pakistani officials claimed that the country was taking over the presidency at a crucial time when United States was making strong efforts to involve United Nations to retrieve the worsening military and political situation Iraq.
